Regulation 7 Direction

The significant number of HMOs in the West End was resulting in a surfeit of ‘To Let’ boards which many residents felt was giving the area an unsightly and somewhat rundown appearance. The WERA Committee became aware of legislation known as Direction 7 which gave local Councils the power to restrict that type of board. The legislation had already been successfully implemented in areas of Newcastle around the University and an approach to the City Council was made requesting that Direction 7 be implemented in the West End.

The Council considered our request and agreed to progress it. Following considerable work by the Council for which we were extremely grateful the legislation was eventually implemented and the appearance of our streets has been considerably improved as a result
